About

Two busy brunettes is a blog by.. you guessed it- two busy brunettes. We are sisters who have a common interest in crafts, teaching, decorating, and reading. We created this blog to share those interests and ideas with you. We hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as we enjoy writing it.

Where are you from?
We were both born in Rocket City a.k.a. Huntsville, Alabama and raised in Valhermoso Springs, just south of Huntsville. Now we live over 300 miles away from each other- Julia now lives in Kentucky, and Leslie resides in Arkansas.

What made you stay close through the years?
First of all, being 3 years apart in age has a lot to do with our closeness. (Thanks mom and dad!) We have always been able to relate to each other well because of the close age gap.  Things that have brought us closer together throughout the years are: our love for school (from a young age), girl scouts, art, clothes, sports, and music.  One thing that we share that is most dear to us contributes the most to our closeness, which is our love for Christ.  If we didn’t share that, we wouldn’t have the sister/best friend relationship that we have today.  We have experienced mission trips, graduations, vacations, deaths, heartaches, marriages, and various other life-changing events that only bring you closer when you are knit together in God’s love.  Going to the same college (Harding University), being apartment roommates for a year, and being the same major (Early Childhood Education) probably didn’t hurt either. :)

What made you decide to start this blog?
We both love creating things: anything from desserts to handmade projects. We both have so many ideas, especially when it comes to crafts and teaching. But living apart does not make it any easier to share our ideas with each other. Whenever visiting a few times a year, it seems as though we’re always attempting to share as many ideas as possible about our latest crafting projects or lesson plans.  Seeing other teachers with their own blogs online made us think, “Hey, we can do that!” So, after a few months of talking about it we finally went for it. We love sharing our artistic talents with others and getting ideas from our peers in return. And now we talk more often and keep up with each other’s lives because of this blog!

What is your vision for this blog?
We envision this blog as a place for people to come to get ideas for anything: teaching, crafting, cooking, or decorating, etc.

We will:
-share things with you that we are busy with :)
-try to be original in our ideas
-post about things that we think would interest you
-try to glorify God in the process (Colossians 3:17)

We won’t:
-post 20 pictures for something that would only take 3. (It bugs me when people show every step of a recipe. Everyone knows how to pour milk in a bowl. Why do we need a picture?)
- bug you with our teacherspayteachers or etsy products. We don’t mind if you browse though!
- strike it rich in the blog world! That’s not our goal here. (Although, of course we wouldn’t mind!)

We hope you enjoy our blog. If you’d like to know more about each of us, click below to read more!

  7. Leslie and Julia,

I absolutely LOVE your blog! As I have a sister, and we are both brunettes, we have been visiting and drawing inspiration from here for our daily lives! We’re both busy at the University of Hawaii, and cannot wait for future posts!

  8. Hey there Leslie and Julia, I have a quick question for you. Do you have an e-mail address people can use to contact you? I work for a school district (Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia) that puts together a Strategy-A-Day Calendar for professional development. On one of the pages we want to use a picture/idea found here on the blog (crediting you, of course). We send out a permission form (via e-mail or snail mail) to comply with copyright. Is there a way to contact you?
    Thanks so much!
    Chris (Chris.Bugaj@lcps.org or attipscast@gmail.com)

  9. Hey Leslie and Julia, I love your signatures with the sketch of your faces. Where did you get them? (BTW–I’m from Alabama, too!)
