‘Egg’cited About Easter

In anticipation of Easter, my husband and I made these eggs last night. Ok, fine. I made these eggs last night while my husband studied Physics next to me. He did make one egg. I guess that was overdoing it for him. =)

I just love them! Here’s the details if you’re interested.

  1. Find some pretty napkins. It looks nicer when the napkins have a white border around the designs. I got these napkins at Wal-Mart. Tissue paper works well too. You will also need modge podge and a foam paintbrush. Oh yeah, and eggs! I used blown eggs, but if you don’t plan on keeping them, you can use hard-boiled eggs.
  2. Cut out the designs you want to use. You can also cut out individual letters to spell a word.
  3. Peal the back layer from the napkins. (This could also be done before you cut out the designs.)
  4. Using a foam paintbrush, put a thin layer of modge podge on the surface or your egg.
  5. Place your design on the modge podged egg. Smooth it down with your finger.
  6. Brush modge podge over your design. This little monster looks like he’s saying, “No!! Not icky modge podge! I don’t want to be stuck to this egg forever!” =)
  7. Let the egg dry. It is easier to do one side at a time, leaving time to dry between sides. I stuck a toothpick in the tiny hole I had used to blow the eggs. Then I turned them upside down and stuck them in an egg carton- that way the eggs didn’t roll around and get smudges or get newspaper stuck to them.

Here’s how they turned out:

Monsters… for my classroom.

I made girly ones for my (almost) seven-year old niece who came to visit me today. (Joshua made the one that says, “easter.” Didn’t he do a good job?)

These springtime ones I made from tissue paper. They are going in my hutch.

Have an ‘egg’ceptional day!

  1. These are so cool! I am pretty lazy when it comes to decorating eggs, if I even do it at all. This seems like a pretty straight forward idea though so I might just try it. Great job and congrats on FP!

  2. what a cute idea, love the designs, I presume modge podge is some kind of glue or are you using old fashioned flour and water?

    • CAn you do this with boiled eggs instead of blown? What a fun and neat thing. modge-podge. I will have to look into this stuff. It looks fun. We already colored our eggs for this year, but next year I have a feeling we will be gluing some stuff! And I am re-blogging this one now! Enjoy your holiday!

  3. Yes, I can see that you guys have been busy. A lot of effort has gone into these eggs. Congratulations on being freshly pressed.

  4. These are so fun! We always melted crayon wax onto the eggs to make “cool” patterns, but these are wayyyy prettier, haha.

    Happy Easter!

  5. Perhaps your husband was attempting to unlock the secrets of the universe – specifically, time travel – in order to travel back in time and decorate your eggs BEFORE you ever sat down to work on them in the first place!
    Didn’t that occur to you?

  6. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your webpage? My blog site is in the exact same area of interest as yours and my visitors would definitely benefit from some of the information you present here. Please let me know if this okay with you. Thanks a lot!

  7. These are super cute. I love the different designs you chose. I see this being a great Saturday project with the little ones. I also thought that instead of buying designs, we could draw some on tissue paper, then paste those on the eggs. That way they would be even more personalized. Thanks so much for the great post.

  8. OMG…. these are so adorable! I never used Modge Podge before, but now I am going to have to get myself some! Thanks ever so much for sharing – what a great post! GREAT JOB – very EGG-ceptional!

  9. I have spent the last two hours attempting to clean up the kitchen of dried egg, bits of tissue, paint and glue, however I do have two very egg-cited kids (couldn’t resist… sorry….) and some great little Easter pressies – thanks for the fabulous idea ladies – we just love them!

  10. i love the eggs! they’re fun and bright. i use napkins and modge podge on votives holders. i recycle glass candles like Glade candles or purchase them online and use the same method. one year when things were tight i made a bunch as christmas gifts using holly napkins and hot glued some flat stones on the bottom for a base. awesome – btw love your blog header, who drew it. this is a fun blog. thanks for sharing.

  14. Those eggs are absolutely adorable! I made some easter-eggs myself last night, tough not this type, I made cardboard-ones but now I’ll definitely have to make these ones as well it doesn’t seem to be that difficult! Does it take a lot of time?

  15. Reblogged this on blogsbyrobin and commented:
These eggs a delightful. I have done this same thing on wooden eggs. (I found some online that were treated to look like real eggs.) This is a wonderful way to celebrate spring and kid friendly as well.
